![]() ![]() ![]() The schematics are not that different between the 4-board and the 2-board, but the 2-board is more accessable and has the edge connector. Falcon had paid Nintendo 100,000 for a license to produce its model, and the deal stipulated that stickers be placed on the PCB board of each Crazy Kong. came out they could fit everything on one PCB. By the time Popeye and Mario Bros came out they stopped using the PCB brackets and went to putting two-boards in a metal cage. came out Nintendo redesigned the cocktial machines so a 2-board stack would fit and you stopped seeing the 4-board stacks all toghether. Since the larger 2-board stack would not physcially fit in the DK cocktails, Nintendo continued putting the 4-board stack in that machine. Usually on any DK type pcb this problem is on the Video board. I swapped for a known good video board and still had the same problem. Rated 5.00 out of 5 15.39 Add to cart Nintendo Donkey Kong Game PCB Cap Kit Nichicon. The board ran perfect, but no motion sprites showed up. Nintendo then redesigned the PCB and came out with the 2-board stack, which went in all upright DKs with the TKG-4 label. Nintendo Donkey Kong 3 Game PCB Cap Kit Nichicon. For instance, early Donkey Kong arcade PCBs found in red Donkey Kong cabinets often contained four circuit boards and are commonly referred to as a. type (Im not even sure if Nintendo even made a 3- or 4-board DKJR set. Nintendo continued using the 4-board stack with the dedicated red Donkey Kongs (TKG-3) they started using blue DK cabinets a little later but continued with the 4-board stack. The PCB can easily be configured to powerup in either Donkey Kong mode or Donkey. Under the sticker you'll see TRS (for Radar Scope) printed on the PCB. These are the ones with stickers that say TKG-2. When DK came out Nintendo was taking Radar Scope boardsets and converting them to DK. Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time. The earlier Nintendo boards in the late 70s and early 80s (Radar Scope, Donkey Kong) were 4-board stacks regardless of whether they were for uprights, cocktails, or caberets (I think Space Firebird was 3 boards). Unlike its predecessors, Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. This is due to my supergun setup and not a PCB fault. Donkey Kong 3 is the third game in the Donkey Kong arcade series. Sure enough it booted fine and ran but was missing the sprites which is to be expected really.Ī couple of days later I received the new chip and now we get thisĪll sound and controls working too so that’s this one sorted. To help confirm my diagnosis I pulled the DMA chip and powered up the game. I checked all the incoming signals to the DMA chip but found nothing odd so at this point I figured I needed to buy a new DMA chip so ordered one from eBay. The CPU and the DMA chip are tied to the same busses and the DMA chip didn’t appear to be releasing the data bus to allow the CPU to do its thing. I took to the internet and downloaded the datasheet for the DMA chip and also the schematics for this PCB too. I’ve not seen or even heard of these before so it something new to me. This is a DK3 PCB that has been bench tested for 12 hours and was used as a bench tester for 3 years. On closer inspection I realised that the one on the left is actually a Z80 DMA chip. It didn’t make any difference at all so I started looking at the Z80 CPU signals and this is where I got a little confused.Īt first glance and without really engaging brain too much I automatically assumed that there were two Z80 CPU’s side by side but checking the voltages and the signals left me scratching my head as they were not what I had thought. I erased these and reprogrammed them with the correct data from the MAME set. Adjusting the voltage to a bit higher brought the PCB voltage back up to a good point but made no difference to the fault.įound 7C, 7D & 7E had suffered from bit rot. I checked the voltages at the far end of the PCB and saw they were quite low compared to what my PSU was set at. On boot up I got a static green of garbage Got a Donkey Kong 3 to repair from my good friend Alex Nintendo Arcade
